Your auto insurance policy has a limit. So does your home insurance policy. Limits may sound confining because they limit the insurance company’s liability in claims that affect your car or home, but they also benefit you because they limit your premium. After all, if you had unlimited liability from the insurance company, the premiums they would have to charge in order to stay in business would be outrageous. But some individuals want a little extra insurance – more than their regular insurance policies offer. Those individuals can choose to add an umbrella policy to their insurance arsenal.

What is an umbrella insurance policy?

An umbrella policy is not like a different kind of insurance plan, but simply a liability policy that stretches out over the limits of your existing home insurance or auto insurance policy. And like an umbrella protects its carrier from the coming rainfall, an umbrella insurance policy protects policyholders from the claims of individuals that exceed the limits of their underlying home insurance or auto insurance policies. You don’t need a separate umbrella insurance policy for both home and auto coverage – one umbrella policy extends protection for claims under each policy.

How does it work?

Having a pool can be a lot of fun, but it can also bring a lot of liability to a home owner’s doorstep. If one of your friends or neighbors is visiting your home and is injured while swimming in or walking around your pool, it could result in a very large claim against your home insurance policy (depending on the nature and extent of the damages suffered). For the sake of this example, let’s say that you have a home insurance policy with limits of $250,000. Your children’s friends come over one afternoon to enjoy the pool and one of them slips and falls in, resulting in a neck injury and partial temporary disability that creates a need for several years’ worth of physical therapy and surgery in order for that person to walk again. This could result in a liability claim of $1 million or more – but your home insurance will only pay up to $250,000. The rest of the claim is your responsibility to pay – unless you have an umbrella policy. If you did, the umbrella policy would pay the remaining $750,000 due and you would not have to sell your home or dip into your personal assets to pay the claim. The example would work the same way if your automobile was the cause of the injury rather than the pool.

Because umbrella policies are not required by law, it is up to you whether or not you have one. When you consider the damage to your finances and your future that a single liability claim could have, you might find that the additional protection of an umbrella policy covering your home and auto is just enough to help you sleep easier at night.

The weather conditions should not affect anything. Of course, it is clear to everybody that in winter accidents are more frequent, but you also have to remember that avoiding an accident is much more valuable than knowing how to recover from it. But in case you did end up in an accident please know what to do. Let us try to explain everything you will require to understand while finding yourself a victim on the road. Here are a few very strong advices that will definitely help you to get through a difficult time of your life.

We would want you to read these points carefully and if you have an opportunity to print the information given below please do and make sure you keep it not to far away.

First of all it is important to take a deep breath and not to panic. Analyze the situation and determine the equivalent of losses. The damage can be significant or slightly important. In any case you have to consider that it is easy to make the situation even worse than it is. In any case, what you must know is that sometimes medical assistance is what you need to think of in the first place. Smallest details count.

You have to know to report police about any accidents you find yourself in. It has to be legal so there is a way to deal with the situation. Do not try to escape from the scene or arrange anything without police knowing about it. This will get you into more trouble. Police will make a full report of everything that happen and conclude with the verdict.

Do not let anybody get you blinded. Talk only with policemen about the accident. We know sometimes it is difficult to keep it quiet about what happened but take a look at it from a different point of view. While in panic people let themselves go, not realizing what it can get themselves into. Limit all of the conversations about the accident on the road and do not confess anything. The only two people that should know all honesty are the policeman and insurance company person.

Remember to make notes. People are so shocked and nervous after the accident that they forget the most important part – to write down names, addresses, phone contacts of those who were involved in the car accident with them. But you have to ask your insurance company’s advice while you are waiting for police to arrive. The insurance company guy will definitely tell you to recollect the name of the insurance company the others are dealing with plus their car’s identification number.

You should call your insurance company or your insurance agent as soon as you found yourself in the accident. He must know it before anybody. Please inform him about the smallest details and don’t be afraid to speak the truth even if you were the one responsible for the accident.

You ca also find some car insurance quotes on different websites and read them before you hit the road. We don’t mean you have to do it everyday but it is always good to know how to help ay case when it occurs. You can also get car insurance quotes from the insurance company itself if you have chosen one already. Good luck and be safe!

Having an accident with a driver who has no auto insurance coverage can place you and your insurance company in an unpleasant situation. However, having uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage allows you to rest assured that you’ll receive coverage no matter what. While having an accident with such a driver may sound quite unlikely, since all states legally require drivers to have auto insurance, fact is that there the number of uninsured drivers can go up to 25% in certain places.

What is UM or UIM?

Uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage will pay for injuries or damages you, your passengers or your property has sustained due to an accident with a driver who doesn’t have enough insurance coverage, or no insurance at all and is called responsible from the legal point of view.

By uninsured river most companies mean a driver who had no insurance, didn’t have the minimum required amount, or was denied coverage by his insurance company and thus being unable to pay for the damage caused. Hit-and-run drivers can also be classified as uninsured drivers from bodily injury liability perspective.

An underinsured driver in contrast, is a car owner who had the amount of coverage to meet state minimum requirements but not enough to cover the damage or injuries caused. In this case, his insurance will pay a certain part of the damage and the rest will have to be covered by underinsured motorist coverages.

Though, you have to keep in mind that these coverage types are not the same and are separate. Still, insurance companies tend to bundle them into a single product for convenience.

Is it a must?

Only in a small number of states UM/UIM coverage is legally required. The majority of states leave it as an option. However, if you choose to purchase this coverage it should meet the minimum state requirements but not exceed liability limits of your policy. In case your company offers uninsured motorist property damage (UMPD) coverage it is impossible to be purchased without having UMBI.

What use is there in it?

First of all, this type of coverage is relatively cheap car insurance and won’t boost up your rates dramatically. However, in case you have an accident with an uninsured/underinsured driver, you risk of not getting sufficient coverage by your company, which will pay for your car repair or medical bills if required. Assuming that the other party was at fault, it is the other party’s insurance company that should be paying for these expenses, and if there’s not enough or simply no coverage eventually you won’t be paid anything.

Having uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage will pay for your damages and injuries in case you face such a driver in an accident. It is evident that it’s better to have such coverage with your policy even if you are striving for cheap car insurance. You especially benefits from this coverage if you frequently drive in areas where there are more uninsured vehicles. See what the rates are in your location and decide if it is a must for you.

Is it true that red car owners have more speeding tickets than people whose cars are colored differently? Does your insurance company set rates according to the color of your car’s body? Have colors have anything to do with the likelihood of car accident occurrence? These are questions you have asked yourself at least once.

Is the red car really fast?

You have definitely heard numerous stories telling about red cars being ticketed far more often and costing more to insure than cars of any other color, even if there’s no statistical proof of such information. Because there’s no official data on that matter it’s really hard to say what color is riskier, however insurance companies and police officials state that they never link the color of the car to actual claims or tickets.

Of course, the best idea is driving within speed limits regardless of your car color. Even if you have a red car, respecting the speed limits will prevent you from getting tickets. And chances of your insurance being costly are the same as the other guy driving his green SUV in the next lane.

Color and character

It may be irrelevant to speeding tickets and insurance rates, but what does the color red tell about you as a person? It may not affect the number of tickets you receive, but what does your car color say about your personality? Many psychologists of various schools that work with colors tend to attribute the color of red to aggressive behavior, describing people who like this color as risk-lovers and very active persons. That’s probably where the whole red car insurance story comes from – red means more risk, and more risk means higher premiums.

Color and money

But is this all true? Do auto insurance rates depend on what color your car is painted in? And will the rates go down if you repaint your vehicle? No, no and no!

Some people tend to believe that the VIN contains information on your vehicle color and when the insurance company uses your VIN to set the rates for you, they include your color into the calculations as well. In reality, there’s much more to VIN than just body color and the insurance company won’t even pay attention to this factor, being interested in production year, make, model, engine size and other more important technical data for determining your auto insurance rates. And the only way you can get higher auto insurance rates for your red car is it being a Ferrari, Lamborghini or another expensive fast car that is generally quite costly to insure regardless of body color.

So if you really want to drive a red car enjoy doing it for as much as you like without worries. That is having in mind that you will be driving with respect to speed limits, less aggressively and making everything possible to avoid traffic accidents. Which applies to all car owners that want to have cheaper auto insurance regardless of what color is their car. It can be painted like zebra if you will, but if you drive safely it will still cost you less to insure the vehicle!

Many couples have enough money in its life insurance policy to live on. And they chose to save money for their children. The problem here is that higher should not live in poverty to save money for your heirs. So, which option these people have? One of them should contact a life settlement company’s.

These companies specialize in life insurance settlements. You may wonder what the life settlements. Basically, it’s when a company pays its individual life insurance policy. They pay a higher payment to the insurance company would pay him in and collect an amount lower than the nominal value. The total price is determined in many things, but overall this is a great way for the biggest get the money they need to live their lives without living in poverty or get into debt.

Unfortunately, many seniors are unaware of what the life settlements and there are many people out there trying to exploit this situation and get more to sign up for something that is not really in your best interest. So, what couples should do if they are interested in life settlements is simply called a company and a talk by the establishment of life to them about their personal situation. Sure, it is important that it is a reputable company, but other than that the couple can actually do this transaction on its own. When selling your life insurance policy not only they have enough money to live a happy but more than likely have enough to pay someone to their children the day they leave.

Most of us hesitate to change something in our lives. We give ourselves excuses and prolong things that could be done today – postponing them as much as we can. Why do we need to wait until the 1 of January to start something new? When it comes to our health we always wait. We wait to start taking care of ourselves. But just think of how much money we could economize if took our health state seriously. Here are three simple advices that will help you save your check and improve your health.

1. Take care of your health situation.

If everyone took care of his health doctors would have no work. We do not realize that we risk our own life and cost ourselves big bucks when we don’t want to treat ourselves on time. According to some of the most renowned doctors in USA – the following four things could lower your proneness to cancer, heart problems and diabetes.

Eat right

Stay active

Don’t smoke

See your doctor every now and then

2. Make good use of your pre-tax income.

Lots of employers around USA supply Flexible Spending Accounts or other types of tax-advantaged savings accounts that can be employed to save some money. All you have to do is specify the sum you want payroll to divert into your flexible spending account, which is then is taken from your paycheck before they begin calculating tax withholding amounts. The money from your Flexible Spending Account can be used for different kinds of medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. It is very convenient and doesn’t cause too much trouble to organize.

Approach your Human Resources Department about Flexible Spending Account. You should know all the details before you apply for it.

3. Read and save every piece of paper you get from your doctor’s office, the hospital, and your insurance company

We don’t like to collect stuff. Sometimes we receive a bill, bring it home and find it in the trash bin a few minutes later. But what if this piece of paper is significant? All the medical bills should be placed in one box and remembered about. Medical bills aren’t always correct. We are all humans that make mistakes. Doctors are not insured from a mistake – not literally. They can make a mistake and if you find it you are lucky enough to correct it. If you threw the paper away – it is quite impossible to hold somebody responsible without a proof or evidence. If someone switched digits or missed a letter in the billing code, you (or your insurance company) could be billed for a procedure that costs far more than the one you actually received.

If you feel like your medical bill has some sort of mistake – please don’t be shy to contact your healthcare provide for further assistance. It is your health and it should not be kidded around with. After all your doctor will owe you an explanation and you will know the truth about what happened. It is also important to read your health insurance statements carefully. If you health insurance company refuses to cover your medical expenses – make sure you are given a reasonable explanation about it. Everybody can make a mistake. Make sure it is not related to your health.

Term life insurance is a simple way of protecting your dependents when you die. You pay a premium. If you die within the nominated term, the insurance company pays out. So what do you need to think about? Well, life policies are offered everywhere as part of your credit card or loan packages, through membership of clubs and as standalones. As with any other product, shop around with your head fully engaged. Start with sites such as this obtaining free online quotes for life insurance. The more information you collect, the better. Find out exactly what premiums are required to produce a given amount of death benefit. Always compare like-for-like. Some insurers ask for monthly payments. Others go for quarterly, half-yearly or yearly. Similarly, companies usually offer terms from 1 to 20 years. Always get life insurance quotes for the same term.

It’s never a good idea to meet with an agent or company rep unless you already have a written quote for the particular companies being touted. Always explore your options face-to-face knowing what the general market has to offer. Never ever sign a binding contract at one of these meetings. Always take time to think about your options before committing yourself. When you’re shopping around, always ask for a guaranteed renewable policy. Say you decide to start with a short-term policy of five years. This looks a good low-cost, affordable life insurance policy for someone young and without too many commitments. Make sure you have the right to renew as many times as you want and no matter how your health may have changed. Equally important, make sure your premiums are fixed during the lifetime of the cover and no matter how many times you renew. Remember premiums are low when you’re young because you should live a good number of years. If you’re renewing at market rates when you’re older, your premium will rise significantly. Make sure you get the benefit of premiums already paid.

Don’t go for anything fancy. You want a policy that pays the minimum amount you think your dependents will need should you die. You can always buy additional policies as inflation takes some of the original value away. Don’t be tempted by policies that offer different levels of benefit depending on how you die. Finally, always check out the financial health of the company before you buy a life insurance policy from them. It would be unfortunate if the company had no money to pay out when you died.

Summary

The article looks at the basic steps you should take when buying a life insurance policy. Always get quotes for the same death benefits over the same term, and standardize the instalments. Don’t be tempted by fancy offers and get the right to renew at the same premium.

When life is going along well, there are rarely temptations. You have everything under control and there’s no need to cut corners. But as the household budget comes under pressure, you have to keep the cost of essentials like auto insurance under control. No-one wants to risk driving out on the public roads without insurance. Cars are essential to most households.

You don’t want to be put in the situation of having to choose between food and insuring the car. Yet, if you have picked up a traffic ticket, there’s a temptation not to pass the news on to your insurer. You’re almost certain the result will be a premium increase, particularly if it was a moving offense – insurers tend to think people who drive too fast or without paying proper attention to the rules of the road are more likely to get into accidents.

So what are the issues? Most auto insurance companies treat the ticket as “important” for between three and five years, and raise your premium. The amount of the increase will depend on the offense. A speeding ticket where you were only a few miles per hour over the limit will not have a big effect. But if you were driving under the influence of drink or drugs, the effect will be significant.

For starters, in many states, you will be caught up in the SR-22 scene. This is a certificate issued by your insurance company to your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles. It certifies that, even though you are a “problem driver”, you’re carrying the minimum liability covered required by your state. Except that many insurers are unhappy if you have a drink driving or DUI conviction and either refuse cover or charge a deterrent premium. That means getting the SR-22 can be expensive.

So you’re tempted to keep quiet and hope your insurer will not notice the ticket(s). That keeps the premiums affordable. But, as and when the company finds out, your auto insurance policy will be cancelled. Your failure to disclose facts that were material to assessing the risks and setting the premiums can, if deliberate, be treated as fraud and you could find yourself the subject of prosecution or civil suit. Worse, no other insurance company will then insure you. It’s not that honesty is the best policy. It’s the only way you can get and keep a policy in place.

The law is very straightforward. The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives all US consumers the right to receive one free report from the credit bureaus every year. The intention is to ensure that everyone understands their financial situation, takes precautions to fight identity theft, and gets (reasonably) fair treatment from all lenders. You have no right to receive your credit or FICO score. The problem is that every lender, insurance company and other company that uses the information about your finances applies a slightly different formula to work out your score. There is no one score to give you. All your get is your credit history. That’s all the transactions recorded by the banks, finance companies, insurers, etc. The good or bad news, depending on your point of view, is that up to 40% of all reports contain one or more mistakes. The good news is that you can get these mistakes corrected. The bad news is that everyone has been calculating your creditworthiness and risk profile on the basis of bad information, sometimes for years.

How do you get these histories? There’s a single federal site where you apply: www.annualcreditreport.com. There’s also a toll-free number: 877-322-8228. If you approach the three major credit bureaus directly, i.e. Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, there’s a chance you will be asked to pay. If you go to any other website, you will almost certainly be asked to pay to get your “free” reports. Use the federal site only to avoid problems. When you log on to the site, be prepared with your name, address, date of birth and social security number. You will also be asked for some other information only you would be expected to know, e.g. the amount you paid as the last mortgage instalment. Assuming you pass through the security system without problem, you will be give immediate access to your report. If you use the telephone system or write them a letter, expect to wait two more more weeks for a hard copy of the report to arrive.

If you find a mistake on your free credit report that affects your credit scores, you should act immediately. Write to the credit bureau and the reporting agency that filed the incorrect information using certified mail with return receipt requested, and explain in detail why the credit report is wrong. Send copies of the relevant bills, statements, cancelled checks and receipts – hopefully, you are well organized and have been keeping all these original documents and records in a safe place. If you are writing to report a case of identity theft with someone opening an account or falsely using your credit cards, make a police report and send a copy of that report to the bank, credit card company, etc. The bureau and reporting agency have thirty days to reply with the results of their investigation. If they agree with you, the information will be corrected. If they disagree, they must given reasons. In this way, you can ensure that all the information about you is both complete and accurate. With your records accurate, your FICO scores should improve.

There are plenty of reasons why, as a Florida inhabitant, you can prefer to move insurance coverage of your vehicle to a different company. You could have changed workplaces and are suitable for a group discount via another insurer, or you’re unsatisfied with your present company’s service. Probably you’ve found another company that offers you the same coverage level for significantly less payment. Today, you can get free information through websites or phone services. Examining your options has never been simpler.

Review your vehicle coverage regularly to be assured that you receive the best insurance merit for your money. You’ll see that it acquits shopping around. Premiums for equal policies may widely differ among various companies, in Florida. The reasons for such a variety can be very complex, but it retrenches to claims experience of a company with policyholders in group of your coverage. For example, if a major number of people in your coverage group files will claim pending a given year, your rates will probably be raised. Lower general premiums and better discounts might be available at other companies, when this happens. You’ll see it’s pretty simple to move your auto insurance to a different company, when you settle to do so.

Before you cancel the old insurance coverage, you should always have a new policy instead. The gap in protection will asset serious risk, in case you’ve had a claim or an accident. It can also cause your auto insurance rate to strikingly rise. Luckily, there is almost no jeopardy of this to happen. All drivers, living in Florida are obliged to carry a lesser level of insurance. The majority of companies also requires to present new coverage confirmation before canceling an old policy.

Actually, all you have to do to cancel your vehicle policy is to notify your insurance company in written form, defining the date you want to cancel the policy. In several states, the new agent must inform the previous one of the policy shift.
